Low-income Car Ownership

Overview

Low-income workers who own a car have improved employment and earnings potential, enjoy more quality time with their families, and benefit from better access to financial services than those without a vehicle.

In Detail

Reliable transportation to work is a critical piece of the employment puzzle. Without personal transportation, a 20-minute commute can take more than an hour. Missing a bus or taking a child to a mid-day doctor's appointment can present major obstacles to getting to work, keeping a job, or getting training to move up to better-paying work. Low-income workers often also find it difficult to access banking services that make it possible (and affordable) to purchase a reliable car.

Working Wheels
Working Wheels is a comprehensive not-for-profit transportation-to-work program for working families, selling affordable used cars to low-income workers and helping them access living wage career opportunities while improving their credit and financial management skills. Learn more.
