Employment Assistance Project

Overview

The Employment Assistance Project was developed to provide culturally and linguistically sensitive employment services to the Latino population. The Project provided personalized job skills development and long-term job readiness preparation to underemployed and unemployed individuals.

In Detail

Administered by the Seattle Downtown Human Services Council (DHSC), the Project provided intensive case management, basic employment skills workshops, linkages to vocational skills training, specialized job development, and significant post-placement follow-up designed to support ongoing skill development. The Project's efforts were focused on port-related employment in eight key industries: hospitality, construction, fishing, marine and shipbuilding, warehousing, manufacturing, air transportation, and cruise ships. Job development was targeted to positions that offered a starting wage of at least $7.00 per hour.

Port Jobs funded the Employment Assistance Project from 1993 to 1996.
